who is ec+g?

Contact us if you would like to work with us, or just want to know more.

ec+g's principal is Kenneth J. Thompson. Please call him Ken.

He's a native of Toronto, ON, a fact which many in his current home of Vancouver still hold against him.

background and qualifications

Ken is not your average web designer — he has several different but complementary areas of expertise which uniquely qualify him to create effective websites:

writing

Ken is a gifted writer:

  • academically, Ken has won two major awards for his writing on classics — the Desmond Hart Memorial Award for best undergraduate history paper at York University; and the Classical Association of Canada Award for best Classics paper in Canada.
  • in business, Ken has written numerous well-received documents for clients in his consulting practice, including business and marketing plans, proposals, SOQs, and marketing materials.
  • he has also written content for websites with varying styles and purposes, and understands the unique nature of writing for the web.

business

Ken has managed businesses of various sizes in several industries, and has consulted with many more.

He has combined that experience with education, earning his MBA degree at UBC, specializing in Marketing and Strategy. In the process, he achieved a score in the 98th percentile on the GMAT, and won two scholarships and a much-sought-after internship.

technology

Ken has a great deal of on-the-job experience with web technologies in all of ec+g's service areas (including design, development, graphics creation and editing, Flash development, and CMS theming).

He has also excelled studying programming and other technologies at BCIT.

design and graphic arts

With years of experience producing commercial graphics, Ken is both artistically and technically proficient in visual design and computer graphics work. Please see his portfolio and website work for examples.

interests

When he is not helping ec+g's clients, Ken stays busy by studying to keep his skills current, helping raise his two children, coaching his son's baseball and soccer teams, and, occasionally, relaxing with his wife.

In another life, when he had no kids, Ken used to be an avid reader (particularly of history and science fiction); supporter of the Denver Broncos, New York Yankees, and Michigan Wolverines; and devotee of Korean cinema. He still tries to be all those things, but family comes first.
